Interest in Optometry
I believe that a calling, as opposed to a profession, starts with children. It is a voice, or the ghost of a thought, that starts at the back of your mind. It tells you that this, and nothing else, is the most important thing in your life. This is what you want to do. This is your passion, your call. I feel this way about optometry. As a child, I was not yet aware of what the related profession was called, but I was aware of my interest in all things to do with eyes. I was therefore very excited when my parents took me to an ophthalmologist whe
He hurried me through the examination, as if he really didn't have time to "waste" on the needs of young children. At a later age, I was taken for another eye examination - this time by an optometrist. He didn't have time for my questions or my concerns. I was now able to put a name to what I wanted to do with my life. Wouldn't it be great, I thought, if I could earn money by working in this field? It wouldn't be like work at all. One of these was the Julia and Israel Waldbaum Dialysis Center, where I kept patients who often had to sit for five hours during treatment, company. I regard a lack of clear vision as a type of disability. I believe that both my interest in the specific field of optometry, as well as my compassion and other interpersonal skills make me perfect for the job. You need to be interested and well educated in the technical aspect, and you also need to be able to connect with people and know how to meet their needs. I'd be paid to pursue my passion and help people in the process. My disappointment was greater than words could describe. Optometry requires a range of skills.
