Military Health Care System
A quarter of the population of the United States is in or has a job related to the armed services. These uniformed service people number over 9 million in active and reserve duties. They are made up of military families, service members, retirees, the families of soldiers, veterans and survivors of those who have perished. To serve the medical needs of all these people, the Military Health System employs over 150,000 personnel, both civilians and military medical, who provide services both in combat zones and wherever military people serve in the world. Over 400 clinics and 70 hospitals are operated throughout the world. These medical personnel assist aeromedical evacuations, work aboard ships and under the sea. They deliver aid to those in crisis and are trained in emergency response capabilities. They conduct medical research through Department of Defense research organizations that might save lives in battle or treat cancer, PTSD, clinical problems or traumatic brain injuries. This is all done through a network of health care providers that offer complete health benefits to men and women and is worth over $45 billion worth of service to both the uniformed service people and the civilians that it serves.

Their policy states that office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation's focus is on welfare, poverty, service delivery issues, data for research, policies affecting children, youth and families, and economic matters affecting the Department. AIR FORCE MEDICINEThe Air Force Surgeon General concentrates on surgery and trauma treatment in its facilities all over the world. CONCLUSIONThe military health care system is enormous and far-reaching, encompassing almost every kind of medical care available for the millions of service people who serve the Nation. Edward Hebert School of Medicine which trains doctors and nurses, offers doctorates and masters degrees in biomedical sciences and public health in an interdisciplinary setting. Some of the health services offered to veterans are prosthetics and sensory aids, spinal cord injury care, Geriatrics Centers, Diabetes care, Long-term care, HIV and AIDS treatment and research. To try to summarize its scope and services is an almost impossible task, but those services may be broken down into the major areas mentioned above: Health Affairs, Army Medicine, Navy Medicine, Air Force Medicine, U. Coast Guard trains its medical personnel to work with are Chemical Biological and Radiological emergencies, hurricane emergencies and preventative medicine (such as disease alerts for Anthrax or Smallpox). Students at USU train to treat military forces in various settings worldwide, provide care for tropical diseases, disasters, both military and public, and to adapt to extreme environments. The Department's goal is to provide patient care, veterans' benefits and "customer satisfaction. It boasts a user-friendly facility with the latest in video and computer monitoring systems.
