First Written Constitution History
The History behind the First Written ConstitutionThe first written constitution for the United States of America dated back to 1638. Three different towns helped to create the document; Windsor, Wethersfield, and Hartford. These three towns were in charge of finding representatives to attend the general court in Hartford. The session was opened with a sermon by Reverend Thomas Hooker. Reverend Thomas Hooker also was responsible for founding Hartford. Others present that day included John Haynes and Roger Ludlow. John Haynes was the first governor of Connecticut under the new Fundamental Orders. He served until his death in 1654. Roger Ludlow presided over Windsor. After the session was over the first government was officially created. The Fundamental Orders was the name chosen for the first written constitution. Although some would argue about the originality of Hartford Connecticut being the place where the first written constitution took place, it is still known as a historical landmark today.For those who believe that Harford Connecticut is the chosen place for the first written constitution, the evidence that helps them determine that has been passed on through history and thus shows documentation of the actual organizat
ion of the committee and such that helped to form this organization. This didn t get very far and something else must be done. The signature was witnessed by the secretary of the convention, WIlliam Jackson. Our Constitution has a preamble, introduction to writing, 7 articles and the amendments are 26. They objected because they thought the President had too much independence and that a bill of rights had not been added. Our nation s leaders established a government with such liberties, rights and laws known as the Articles of Confederation. The powers of our Constitution are divided by the state and national government called the federal system. SummaryFederalists were friends of the Constitution supported ratification and those who opposed it were known as Anti-Federalists. On December 7, 1787, Delaware was the first state to ratify it but the founding fathers weren't sure it would be accepted until the states of Virginia and New York ratified it. The Controversy Books are written on this subject, each with their own ending. A ConstitutionA constitution sets fundamental laws of a nation. Amendments to the Constitution known as the Bill of Rights were added to protect individual freedoms or liberties against the possibility of the national government imposing unjust rule. Because of The Fundamental Orders, Connecticut is now known as The Constitution State. 39 of the 55 delegates signed the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 1787. In order for the constitution to work the government must always have the consideration of the citizens on every decision that is made.
