The Department of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security assesses the nation's vulnerabilities, which means it takes the lead in evaluating vulnerabilities and coordinating with other federal, state, local, and private entities to ensure the most effective response (Department of Homeland Security). "WASHINGTON - The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today released the National Response Framework (NRF), successor to the National Response Plan. The NRF, which focuses on response and short-term recovery, articulates the doctrine, principles and architecture by which our nation prepares for and responds to all-hazard disasters across all levels of government and all sectors of communities. The NRF is responsive to repeated federal, state, local and private sector requests for a streamlined document that is less bureaucratic and more user-friendly. The NRF also focuses on preparedness and encourages a higher level of readiness across all jurisdictions" (Department of Homeland Security). To protect the lives and livelihoods of the American people, we must undertake measures to deter the threat of terrorism, mitigate the Nation's vulnerability to acts of terror and the full range of man-made and natural catastrophes, and minimize the consequences of an attack or disaster should it occur (Protecting the Homeland). Unfortunately, as a society, police need that empowerment over criminals so that they can feel a little imitation when they are faced by them. This can further protect Americans from terrorist attacks. From there, it is apparent that in recent years, the criminologist have reconstruct criminology's framework around Foucault theory since surveillance is the new way to fight against terrorist attacks by having the government to be able spy on everyone. To fulfill these responsibilities over the long term, we will continue to strengthen the principles, systems, structures, and institutions that cut across the homeland security enterprise and support our activities to secure the Homeland. We must also focus on ensuring we have the operational capabilities and flexibility necessary to facilitate both short-term recovery and an effective transition to long-term rebuilding and revitalization efforts (Protecting the Homeland). CIA supported state and local governments by delivering the "Small-Scale Production of Chemical and Biological Agents" course to 17 National Guard Civil Support Teams at various locations around the country (Support to the War on Terrorism and Homeland Security).
