Admission for Career in Pharmaceutical Field

When my uncle first told me about the LECOM School of Pharmacy, my ears perked up. A well-respected pharmacist in Florida, my uncle was in the position of offering advice for those aspiring to work in his field. Moreover, my uncle knows me well and has watched me grow as individual and as a student. His good judge of character means also that he can sense which social environments might best suit my needs. Knowing LECOM well too, my uncle knows what types of students are drawn there and what they need to succeed. He is also familiar with LECOM staff and pharmacy education facilities and so directed me to the college's Web site.Browsing the Web site, I noticed that LECOM offers a wide range of courses and programs for students interested in pharmacy. I am serious about my career choice and therefore need a school that offers a comprehensive four-year program that I can enter immediately. However, I would like to combine my undergraduate with post-graduate studies in the accelerated program LECOM offers, a track that is unique to our field. My level of ambition and my familiarity with the profession through the tutelage of my uncle makes me especially suitable for the accelerated program. Moreover, LECOM provides students with the

As one of the oldest professions in the world, pharmacists understand the panoply of internal and topical medicines and know how to prevent and treat various disorders. The prerequisite courses include those in the hard sciences and gave me not just factual knowledge but also confidence that I can and will succeed in this field. The communications skills required to be a successful pharmacist come naturally to me; they cannot necessarily be taught in a classroom. I have bonded with many of my academic advisors, who fully support my decision to attend LECOM. My desire to become a pharmacist motivates me to work as hard as I possibly can and I have proven my ability to handle large amounts of work in short periods of time. I have volunteered at local clinics and am familiar with how the health care system works in the United States including the intricate and often complicated interactions with insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid. Like many students, I struggled to find direction in life during my first year in college. My study habits are so good that I have tutored my fellow students occasionally. Helping people help themselves, and helping people heal is the essence of any health care work. At CUNY and also at Queens College, coursework is intense and rigorous. Whereas I languished in some of the classes I initially took, suddenly I started to participate in classroom discussions and raise questions the professors had not foreseen such as ones related to ethics. The combination of social skills and hard science is what initially helped me accept pharmacy as my career path. They require astute communications skills and sensitivities to individual differences in clients due to socio-economic class, race, ethnicity, language of origin, and gender. I am not only amicable and friendly but also caring. Thanks to the clear vision I developed, I overcame many of my initial struggles as a first-year student.
