John Keats and Robert Frost as Nature Poets
John Keats and Robert Frost understand what it means to capture certain elements of nature and position them for exceptional entertainment for readers. While these poets did not live during the same era, they share the same desire to express poesy with the guided experience of nature. Nature does not simply exist around us; nature is the vehicle that drives our passions and imaginations and these poets succeeded in illustrating this fact. Keats was a Romantic that took nature and imagination seriously and Frost understood the how nature could be related to the earthly experiences we face. "Ode to a Nightingale" and "L a Belle Dame sans Merci" captures the magical qualities of nature that allow us to believe in the power of nature. The unseen bird and the mysterious lady are all the poet needs to embark on a magical journey. "Birches," "Fire and Ice," "Neither Out Far Nor In Deep," and "The Road Not Taken" represent the poet's ability to relate different aspects of life to elements of nature. From looking at a tree to imaging the end of the world, Frost focuses on intangible aspects of life by connecting them to tangible aspects of nature. Nature is the tool in which each poet utilizes to build a world in which we can enter;

The poet contemplates the end of the world referring to common notions that destruction will come either by fire or in ice. " (Frost NOFNID 2-3) sets the mood for the poem in that there is no sense of one with the land. He envisions a symbolic death, longing for a "long age in the deep-delved earth" (12) and a "beaker full of the warm South" (15) to take him away from the world that he knows. The song compels the poet to think about things not of this world and the imagination is the tool that allows him to reach that point. Nature becomes the poet's friend and our medium of understanding. Even though he wakes alone, it is clear that he would not trade the experience for anything. The lady is gone and he is as he was before he encountered her. In this poem, the poet approaches two paths from which he must choose one or another with very little information to base his decision. The poem also reinforces the need for confidence in oneself as decisions are made. The simplistic beauty prompts the poet to think of how man cannot compare to such beauty. In the poem, "Fire and Ice," the poet explores human emotions by looking at them as compelling features of nature. In addition, the "cobwebs" (46) that stick to us and tickle our skin are like the anxious situations we encounter.
