Environmental Code of Ethics
Introduction - the Need for Ethical Codes Without a code of ethics a business suffers, and the same can be said of the environment if there is no code of ethics for leisure areas and parks. The Random House dictionary defines ethics as "a system of moral principles" (ethics, 1988), but that does not fully explain what ethics means. The code of ethics for any company, for example, is very important, especially when it comes to conflicts of interest, sexual harassment, hiring, and firing (LaCroix, 1979; Elgesen, 1996). These are the most serious issues for most companies today, just as they have been in the past, and companies want to be fair to their employees while still ensuring that all employees understand what the rules are and what they can and cannot do when it comes to appropriate behavior at work (Eisenhardt, 1999). Where the environment is concerned the code of ethics must be very different, because many of the issues that would be seen and dealt with in a business are not the same as they are in areas like parks and campgrounds. What is acceptable in one area of the country or the world may not be acceptable in others, also, and therefore it is necessary to provide people who come to leisure areas with some specific
Most people will be respectful and do what is asked of them so that they can have an enjoyable experience and leave the park or leisure area the way that they found it for other people to enjoy. Please show that you care for the animals by keeping your distance from them and respecting their space. Protecting the environment is something that everyone can help with, if they just do their part. There are always going to be problems. Is hunting considered a leisure activity?Hunting can be a leisure activity, but it can also be a recreational activity or an activity designed to bring in food. Approaching and/or trying to feed the wildlife is prohibited. If they are restricted to the same areas where there are cars and trucks then they will likely not be that much of a problem. This attracts animals who could potentially do damage to items that you have brought with you, and it encourages unnatural behaviors that can also be dangerous to the animals. Trash should always be placed in designated receptacles or taken from the park with you when you leave. Animals build these things for a reason, and disturbing them can destroy natural habitats which can endanger the animals, as well as their fragile ecosystem. If you want to hunt you must get a permit, and you must stay in the designated hunting areas to reduce the risk of harming other people at the park.
