The Importance of Appreciating Nurses

             The medical field is possibly one of the hardest areas to work in. It can rip them up and shred them to pieces if they let it. Dealing with people all day that are angry, upset, scared, and confused with everything that's going on around them. Expecting everyone to know exactly what's wrong with them as they come to the hospital. Not everyone is fit to have a career in the medical field; it takes a certain person to be able to handle all the stress that comes along with the job. And having tough skin is a must have for anyone working the medical field, nurse's especially. Tested for mastery of knowledge and skills within their scope of practice, nurses are not appreciated, and people don't see how important they are compared to doctors.
             Nurses and doctors' are two careers in the medical field, but they are also two completely different challenges. A nurse attends direct attention to a patient, compared to a doctor where they only examine patients and make a diagnosis. Without a nurse buy the doctor's side they would be lost. But yet, nurses are unappreciated in the medical field. They're looked down upon constantly because none of the doctors think that they know what they're doing. But in reality, nurses have had the same amount of education that a doctor might have. "Nurses are just as knowledgeable, yet they get paid less and charged with doing all the "dirty work"" (Fox-Rose, J 1975). Doctors don't realize how much a nurse actually has to do to get to where they are. It takes years of hard work and dedication. And on top of that nurses do hundred times more on a daily basis then doctors will ever do. Yes, "both the jobs are physically and mentally draining" (Fox-Rose, J 1975). Constantly on your feet all day and get little or no time to rest.
