Saying "No" to Alcohol

             "The alcohol makes gentleman be rascal, saints be villains." It is the one of most representative opinion said by the famous Chinese thinkers, Confucius. I always doubted if the opinion is right when I was young, because I saw my uncle drinks everyday for his business. Every night he came back home and start a sponsor pitch about he negotiated a big deal, again, in the booze. Chinese people always use alcohol to break the down barriers between people, the booze is most important social finesse. Every time he talked about his success in a very exciting and drunk tone, we are all infected by his happy expression. It seems like alcohol is just like a sward, which helps my uncle to strike at the hedge and get success. All things seems be perfect until the last year, when my uncle has been diagnosed gastrointestinal cancer. All his success seems worthless comparing with his health. When I saw the man who I admired in my childhood just lying in the sickbed weakly, and could not give us a bright smile anymore, I started to think the alcohol is not something good. Since then, I totally changed my mind about the alcohol. According to statistics, alcohol abuse kills some 75,000 Americans each year and shortens the lives of these people by an average of 30 years. The alcohol is changing the world worse and worse. Canceling the alcohol would make the world a better place because the alcohol always makes people to hurt both themselves and others.
             Alcohol is both a central nervous system depressant and exhilarant. For depressant, the alcohol effects means it can slow down the body's functions and its effects are similar to those of a general anesthetic. Ethanol is the active ingredient in all alcohol drinks. The anesthetic works on the brain and puts it to sleep. Conversely, for exhilarant, the alcohol can push people to do dangerous things to hurt both themselves and others.
