             The greatest Egyptian accomplishments that sometimes overshadow many others were the tombs and mummification practices of ancient Egyptians. Thanks in part to the arid climate; these tombs have been well preserved and have lasted an eternity. This has helped many archeologists understand the history, religion, and process behind Egyptian burial rites.
             The religious beliefs of ancient Egyptians were centered on the Osiris Myth. In the myth, Osiris and his wife Isis, were attending a banquet with his brother Seth and his wife Nephthys. Seth offered a gift of a chest to anyone who could fit into it. Without Osiris knowing, Seth secretly obtained his exact body measurements for the chest. After many failed attempts to fit into the chest by others, Osiris tried. Seth then sealed the chest and poured molten lead over it. The chest was then thrown into the Nile Delta. According to the myth, a violent storm washed the chest up into branches of a tree and over time the tree grew, enveloping both the chest and Osiris inside. The King of Byblos cut the tree down to use as a pillar in his new palace. Once Isis learned what had happened, she asked assistance from the queen of Byblos to recover her husband's body. Once the body was recovered, Seth discovered it, hacked it into many pieces and scattered them throughout Egypt. Isis reassembled her husband, transformed herself into a bird and brought her husband back to life. The effort Isis went to, in order to give her husband a proper burial, symbolizes the importance of ancient Egyptian funerary beliefs.
             It is important to understand that Egyptians believed in resurrection, not reincarnation, a common misconception made by many people. Resurrection is the belief that "people exist just once, but their earthly bodies reanimate in the afterworld."
