Gay Marriage: Yes or no?

             " 'We deal with a right to privacy older than the Bill of Rights – older than our political parties, older than our school system. Marriage is a coming together for better or worse, hopefully enduring, and intimate to the degree of being sacred. It is an association that promotes a way of life, not causes; a harmony in living, not political faiths; a bilateral loyalty, not commercial or social projects. Yet it is an association for as noble a purpose as any involved in our prior decisions...'" ( Justice Douglas in Sullivan, xvii) It has been said, especially recently, that marriage should be specifically and exclusively between a man and a woman. And that gay marriage would desecrate the sanctity of marriage. Gay marriages would do nothing of the sort; in fact, allowing gays to marry would strengthen the ideals of marriage. There are many countries around the world that have allowed gay marriages, as well as a couple of states, more specifically cities, here in the good ole U.S.A. People make a big deal out of gays marrying, especially in the new millennium; but in the past gays marriages were not made out to be wrong or immoral.
             The Republican Senator Rick Santorum (Pennsylvania) "said that allowing the issuance of same-sex marriage licenses 'devalues what marriage is.'" (Bush amendment...) I have yet to find an argument good enough to fight for that line of logic. I have found many reasons that people are afraid of gay marriages, but I believe those reasons are based on fear because marriage to the same sex may be something that some people cannot wrap their minds around or those people just do not want to understand what they think in not normal. I understand that gay marriage is against what some people believe or think but if those people are not gay then how do gays marrying affect them? It just means you might see happier people and a lot less anger from the confused youths that ...
