Gay Marriage: Yes or no?

( Justice Douglas in Sullivan, xvii) It has been said, especially recently, that marriage should be specifically and exclusively between a man and a woman. And that gay marriage would desecrate the sanctity of marriage. Gay marriages would do nothing of the sort; in fact, allowing gays to marry would strengthen the ideals of marriage. There are many countries around the world that have allowed gay marriages, as well as a couple of states, more specifically cities, here in the good ole U.S.A. Recently, a court in Hawaii sat down to hear all of the arguments against gay marriage, and, surprisingly enough, the arguments did not withstand. The idea that any marriage will strengthen any society probably had not occurred to President Bush. The quote from Senator Rick Santorum helped to jump start my thinking by making me ask why gay marriage would "devalue" (Bush amendment) marriage in general and from there my thoughts blossomed. " (Sullivan, 36) Women's work consisted of cooking, cleaning, gathering, and raising children. After Denmark the rest of Scandinavia followed suit as well as Belgium. And yet two other rituals were just like a regular marriage with the exception that the husband (the man paying the "brideprice" (Sullivan 27) was marrying a boy for a wife or "husband" (Sullivan 36) (the wealth and, or barren woman) would marry a young girl for a wife to give the "husband" (Sullivan 36) children.
