Slavery "Mary Reynold's Story"
For this topic, I decided to write about the life of Mary Reynolds. She was a slave since birth, and, to her knowledge, is well over a hundred years old now. Reading these narratives makes it easier to understand what went on during the time of slavery. She was born into slavery around the same time as her master's daughter. Her mother died, so Sarah, the master's daughter, was brought to Mary's mother to nurse with her. Sara and Mary grew very close and played together all the time. The master didn't like this because "nigger" babies weren't suppose to play with white babies, so as soon as Mary was barely old enough to push a broom, the master sold her. He sold her to a man who lost his wife and children because he had no one. He sold her for very cheap because of this. This man would put Mary on the floor with a doll and leave all day. He would feed her when he came home at night and she would sleep at the foot of his bed. This man didn't care whether or not she was even there. Sarah because very ill shortly after they sold Mary, and she wasn't getting any better. She kept asking for Mary, and the doctor told the master he better
When Taylor ran away, Kidd thought that Mary knew something about his whereabouts even though she didn't, so he tied her up to a tree and whipped her very badly. The wife never did anything about this, but she also stopped having anymore children with the master. get Mary back if he wants Sarah to get better. She is now blind and not able to do much for herself anymore. It was recorded in a book by a preacher which was the way of marriage for all the slaves. She brought her back to the plantation. The master's wife heard this and brought it up to the master, and the only thing the master said was that children will say anything. The master had some of the black women making clothes for him and his family, but one day he came back with a seamstress. And if you were working in to fields during these beatings, you weren't suppose to look back or you would get a beating yourself. When Mary became of age, the master sold her to a man named Kidd, along with another slave named Taylor. These children said that they were white to and that when the master comes over to there house, they also called him father. Sarah heard about this, and went and got her. After she was given her freedom, she moved to Texas and cooked for different people until she wasn't able to anymore. This woman began to have children, and you could tell that they were white.
