The Green River Killer

Mary Steinman gave birth to her son Gary Leon Ridgway on Febuary 18th, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah. When Gary was nine years old his family moved to Washington State. As Gary got older he suffered from occasionally wetting the bed. When his mother found out she would clean him up, and then humiliate him in front of his brother and father. This upset him but also aroused him. In this essay I will discuss the crimes, the trial, and the arrest.
Gary's first five victims are found either in or around the Green Mile River in Washington State, and that's his nickname was born. He targeted runaways, prostitutes, and drug addicts. He would pick you his victims while driving down the road and take them to where he would later dump their bodies. To put them the girls at ease he would show them a picture of his son and talk affectionately about him. When the girls where at ease he would have sex with them, and then when he was done he would strangle them or use whatever he could to kill them. He would dispose of there bodies close together so he would come back and relieve the experience, and even have sex with their bodies.
On August 15th, 1982, a fisherman was fishing on the Green River when he thinks he sees a submerged female mannequin, but he soon realizes it's a female body not only one but two. He goes quickly back to shore and calls the police and tells them what he has found. The police discover a third female body in a nearby grassland with a pair of blue pants tied around her neck, she was only sixteen years old. The other two bodies had also been strangled. Within just six months six more killings are linked together as the work of one killer, also the victims have pyramid shaped rocks in their vaginas. The police focus on prostitutes, the main professions of the victims so far. Over the next eleven months twenty-three more girls are murdered in the same area, many of which are also prostitutes.
