A Short Story - Fiction

             One evening while the Crane family sat together cuddled up near the fire on a frigid winter night, they heard a knock at the door. As Mr. Crane exchanged looks with Mrs. Crane, James knew something was very wrong. Mr. Crane jumped up and crept slowly towards the wooden door. No one was ever out at this hour in Paris which scared Mr. Crane but he would never let his family know that.As he opened it a big gust of cold wind swiped his cheeks and sent a shiver down his spine, just as if he knew something bad were about to happen.
             At first when he realized there was a man standing there he did not recognize him, but as soon as he introduced himself he knew he was in a matter of great importance. "Hello, Kyle I have come to talk to you about something," said Mr. White. "What are you doing out at this hour? Are you insane? What is so important that it could not have waited for the morning," responded Mr. Crane. "I have come to give you something that I can no longer bare," he said "I have lost value for it, I have used my wishes." He responded with a hint of cruelty in his voice, "What do you mean wishes? What are you talking about, this is complete madness!" As soon as he said it he realized he was talking to a man who had just recently lost a son and immediately felt remorse for raising his voice. "I have simply come to give you a gift, my friend, there is 3 wishes with this monkey's paw that you may make but choose carefully, for these wishes will come with a grave price." Mr. Crane was intrigued but also frightened, for he had not known what he meant by them costing a grave price. "Well, how do you know this talisman works, and why are you giving it to me?" He considered what he was going for a long time before he finally spoke, "I believe you can do better with it than I have, and I regret ever taking it, but I cannot hold on to it any longer for it br...
