Group Development

             There are many different scenarios where a group will come together and work as one. Working through the stages of group development will happen naturally and in some cases with a little help. Some groups may not make it through all of the stages to get the end result of a final project. The more group members in the group the harder it can be to reach the adjourning stage of group development. Luckily, the current group is a team of two, so reaching the group development stages should be easier.
             Initially when working in a group for the University, the instructor has the teams complete a team charter in which all group members communicate their strengths and how to handle problems. This charter is an ice breaker to start the storming stage and norming stage. The first stage is complete by the facilitator in assigning the teams. The storming stage allows group members to discuss what they are good at and what they are not so good at. The charter allows the team to discuss how they personally would like to handle issues that come up. This also lines out the expectations for the group. Once the group agrees on all purposed ways of handling conflict as well as what the expectations are, the group will move into the norming and performing stages. Our group reaches the performing stage by communicating effectively and getting the job done. Our group decided that communication is important and key to having a successful outcome. We have effectively completed this with assigning different parts of the assignment and setting out deadlines. If there was an issue with the deadline or getting a portion done then the team member will let the others know the issue or when they will have their portion done. This allows everyone to be on the same page and reach the performing stage. In the performing stages the group will complete tasks in a timely manner.
