Good and Evil: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

             The story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novel that's about an adult male man having a good side (Dr. Jekyll) and having a bad side (Mr. Hyde). This novel shows the readers that a genuinely nice man transforms into an evil person with a corrupted mind; Mr. Hyde was Dr. Jekyll's unusual, twin self. Hyde is obviously the bad guy because he is a murderer, and the position he is in pursues Jekyll to commit suicide in order to kill Hyde before he is convicted for his publicly demeaning crime or before goes out to kill someone else again. In this novel along with Edgar Allen Poe's The Cask of Amontillado shows obvious uncanny throughout both stories. Each story's use of uncanny is concurred with a threatening and dark theme of good vs evil as for both stories it intensifies the plot and develops the heartless actions by both of the antagonists. In the case of Dr. Jekyll, it gives a very creepy yet fascinating representation of a normal man's everyday struggle with his inner self. In the other novel, "The Cask of Amontillado", Montresor is shown to be a merciless and complete absurd man that is capable of committing a brutal murder for very little or no reason at all. However, both of these characters are tremendously effective in enhancing their uncanny atmosphere through their distinctive and evil actions. Evil is the main objective within the two stories because it is the foundation to both character's development and is also portraying the good vs evil theme to really show.
             The word evil can be described as "Profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, especially when regarded as a supernatural force"(Oxford Dictionaries Pro) which was said earlier that the fragments of evil are distributed throughout both of these novels.
