United States Basketball and the Olympics

             Every four years there is one of the biggest events held in the world. The Olympics--which is combined with excitement, clutch performances, and chances to break history--make the games historic to watch. Every aspect of the game is viewed with astounding talent from each and every team being played. Basketball on the other hand has made many viewers of the sport contemplate if team America is creating a fair playing field for the other teams that are competing. United States basketball should be able to still compete in the Summer Olympics because the Olympics invite the best athletes, they show a sense of style and entertainment while playing, and they provide a source of challenge despite varying levels of skill.
             The Olympics are said to be the most challenging sports competitions in the world. One of the most popular activities to watch in the Summer Olympics is basketball. It has been said that the American basketball team is too good; not because they beat their opponents by 50 points or more, but because each player is a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Basketball fans believe that there shouldn't be professional athletes in the game. As Richard Worsnop notes, the greatest athletes should play in the Olympics: "But why not basketball's best? Isn't that what the Olympic Games aspire to measure" (Warsnop). I believe in this statement; if the Olympics strive to invite the best athletes from around the world, why not invite basketball's greatest players? Team America does bring a whole lot of talent to the table. So why not have a potential "Dream Team" out on the basketball court?
