The Ethical Beliefs of Hinduism and Buddhism

             Buddhism and Hinduism are two of the most influential and profound religions in the world. Both denominations originated in India, therefore, possessing many similar ideas and philosophies. They have existed for many centuries and are still widely practiced religions today. Buddhism is based on the ideas and teachings of Gautam Buddha, who was once a Hindu before becoming a Buddhist because of Hinduism's "complex nature." Buddhism and Hinduism share many similarities as well as differences due to their ethical beliefs and philosophies.
             The followers of Hinduism and Buddhism both live their lives every day based on the teachings of their religion. Reincarnation, the concept that the spirit after death begins a new life as a human, animal, or other being based on the moral quality of the previous life's actions, plays a big role in both religions. Hindus follow the concept of reincarnation because they believe if a person does good deeds throughout their life, then they will be reincarnated into a better person with a better life. In Ways of the World by Robert Strayer, he states "Reincarnation depends on one's actions." (Chapter 5). If one lives a life of no sin, and constantly does good deeds they will be rewarded in their next life by being reincarnated into a more respected being such as a human or animal. However, if one lives a life of sin then they will most likely be reincarnated into a worthless and weak being that will probably be looked down upon in society. As a practicing Muslim, reincarnation is a concept that is very new and different to me. However, I find reincarnation to be very interesting because it is an idea that makes a lot of sense to me. Personally, I agree with the idea that people should live their lives of no sin because it will make you a more respected person in your life, and in this case, possibly in your next life.
