The Brutal Reign of Commodus

             Some people claim that the emperor Commodus was one of the worst emperors in Roman history. Commodus was the son of Marcus Aurelius, who was a successful ruler in Roman history who set a precedent in which Commodus had to live up to. Commodus proved himself to be a dictator who was a very disengaged pleasure-seeking leader.
             Commodus was born on the thirty- first of August in in 161 A.D. in the town of Lanuvium, Rome. His father's physician, Galen, looked after Commodus. Auelius Galenus otherwise known as Claudius Galenus, better known as Galen of Pergamon, was an extremely conspicuous Roman physician, surgeon and philosopher. Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor from the year 161 to 180 A.D. He ruled with Lucius Verus as a co-emperor from 161 until Venus' death in 169 A.D. He was the last of what is known as the "Five Good Emperors", and is also considered one of the most important philosophers.
             The Five Good Emperors is made up of Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antonius Pius, Marcus Aurelius as well as Commodus. At the age of give Commodus was renamed Caesar. At the age of seventeen he became co-ruler with his father. Commodus spent his entire children accompanying his father on his political campaigns in which his father taught him how to run an empire.
             However, after the death of his father, Rome found that the years, which were under control of Marcus Aurelius, had not impacted Commodus' leadership skills. The reign of Commodus was filled with bad decisions, causing the people of Rome to suffer intensely.
             Commodus' first bad decision took place immediately following his father's death. The people of Rome were extremely against his leadership skills considering they were used to his fathers way of ruling.
