Essay (English Advanced) - Focus Area: FriendshipFriendship is a type of relationship in which emotional bonds are shared between individuals who are well known by one another. Friends regard each other with mutual good will, affection, loyalty, trust and understanding. There are many different types of friendships and because of this, many composers have studied this type of relationship and have incorporated it into their works. Friendship is a main theme in 'Stand by me'. Directed by Rob Reiner, the film is about a childhood friendship between four boys. 'Stand by me' looks closely at the friendship between Chris Chambers, Gordie Lachance, Vern Tessio and Teddy Duchamp as the boys go on a journey to find the body of a missing boy. Reiner explores childhood friendship by studying the friendship between the four boys as a group and Chris and Gordie as a pair. The four boys do not have very much in common. Although all of the boys live in the small town of Castle Rock and are about to start Junior High School, each boy's personality and circumstance are different. Friendships may break down because of distractions, conflict and a lack of the qualities that are essential to maintain them. As NERV's director of operations, Misato is in charge of the fourteen year old pilots, while Ritsuko is the head of the technical department and is in charge of the Evangelions. While all four boys went on the journey together, Vern and Teddy's contributions to the friendship were not very significant because in critical moments in the film such as the final moments with Ace and his gang, both boys failed to demonstrate loyalty and some of the other qualities required in important friendships. Nick and Gatsby were both raised in middle-western American families. Important friendships require those involved to demonstrate many qualities such as selflessness, affection, trust and understanding. Before befriending Corrie, Sarah was bossy and thought herself superior to others because she made numerous lists and behaved in an un-childlike manner. 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' is about evolution, humanity and Evangelions, which are biomechanical robots piloted by chosen fourteen year olds. In his novel 'The Great Gatsby', F. In conclusion, friendship is an important type of relationship because it continues to affect people throughout their lives. Corrie's personality played an important role on the development of her friendship because her friendly nature started the friendship between the two girls. Sarah's personality is also important because her initial coldness prevented the friendship from starting out smoothly. The adolescent friendship between Misato and Ritsuko was one of importance to both women as they were both able to find somebody who truly understood them, but because of distractions and changing circumstances the adult friendship between the two did not last and eventually broke down at the end of the series. While friendship is not a significant theme in the series, the director incorporates the friendship between Ritsuko Akagi and Misato Katsuragi to explore the transition of a teenage friendship between two teenage girls into an adult friendship between two women. Misato and Ritsuko both came from unhappy families; both teenagers were brilliant and did not enjoy socializing with other students. Desire for power is another distraction in the friendship.
