Out, Out and after apple picki
In Robert Frosts poem "Out, Out" and "After Apple Picking" Frost takes everyday experience and scenes and turns them into a metaphor for life. His poetry has a structure of traditional poetry yet he manages to make it fresh and lively by his adoption of a persona or storyteller who reveals events in a dramatic way and in a conversational tone. Through his observations of nature Frost gives meaning to the inner life of individuals and what it means to be human.Throughout the Dramatic monologue " Out, Out' written by Frost, a number of language techniques are used to express the strong moods and imagery in which is intended to touch the reader. The Subject matter is a young boy doing a man's job as a wood cutter. The day ends and his sister calls him for supper. His hand gets cut by the saw and the boy bleeds to death. The dangerous relationship between humans and machines convey frosts powerful message. Frost uses this as a metaphor for he foreshadows the unpredictability of life and of death. Frost sets the scene and establishes a contrast between the menacing man-made buzz saw and the beautiful surroundings in Vermont. He does this by the use of alliteration of the soft words " Sweet Scented Stuff", this presents the s
The noise of the apples being harvesting was effectively portrayed by the use of "hearing" imagery in the line "The rumbling sound, Of load on load of apples coming in" The clear message that's being conveyed in this poem, is the remembrance of the elderly mans days, and the hard work and repetitive procedure of harvesting apples, that his man continues to do each day. The feeling of tension arrises when the elderly man expresses that he has had enough and is warn out of living. In the similar way in the poem " After, Apple Picking" he ended it with the feeling of the days work being just too much for the elderly man and him giving up. A good example of the comparisons of life to death in the poem is line 19 " Stem end and blossom end" implying to the good and bad elements of life. The strong passion of the mans job is conveyed through the way he implies that each apple is to be used for some way or another, and not wasted. "After Apple Picking" reflects on long life ( old man). The buzz saw is alive and rejoicing in its own malevolence from the very first line of the poem. There is a clear subject matter a Man harvesting apples, falls asleep and is in fact imagining the life after death without Apple picking. This is contrasted to the aggressive and or almost beast like saw. "For all, That struck the Earth, No matter if not bruised of Spiked with Stubble, went surely to the cider apple heaps as of no worth. The touching poem "Out, Out" implies a clear message which outlines the difficulty's in life and the simple events that make up a mans death. Similarly in the Dramatic Monologue "After, Apple Picking" Frost expresses his feelings towards life and death and the strong message of "unpredictability" of life comes through once again. This connects with the theme - the process of life to death and the reflections of a day to day life is looked upon. " But I'm Well, Upon my way to sleep before I Fell, and I could Tell.
