a doll's house
In the play, A Doll's House By, Henrik Ibsen, the main character, Nora Helmer made several mistakes and ended up in a situation that destroyed her family. Nora took out a loan to preserve Torvald's health from Nils Krogstad, without anyone's knowledge and forged her dead father's signature to pay for a trip to Italy so her sickly husband could have a change of scenery as the doctor had recommended. Although Nora thought she was doing the right thing, by serving her ill husband, it later on proved that it was a very costly, unforgettable mistake. Since, Nora had never lived alone, going immediately from the care of her father to that of her husband, she was inexperienced in the ways of the world as a result of this sheltering. If I was in Nora's shoes, I would most certainly have handled this situation in a different matter because I wouldn't let my husband be as controlling as Torvald was. In modern day society, a woman wouldn't be in such a si
If he loved and respected me then he would appreciate what I had done for him and know that what I did was for him because I love him and care about his well-being. She has pretended to be someone she is not in order to fulfill the role that Torvald, her father, and society have expected of her. Nora's mistakes, which in the end cost her, her family, could have been prevented if she had told Torvald the truth in the beginning. If she had told him everything in the beginning then none of this would have happened and Nora would still have her family. Women in today's society would do the same if they were being treated as Nora was; they want the same independence and freedom as men. tuation as Nora was in because she would be able to handle things on her own and not behind her husband's back. Although, Torvald wanted to stay by Nora's side, she didn't want that because in the end Nora comes to realize that she has been putting on a show throughout her marriage. As a modern wife, I would've explained everything to my husband and he would have understood why I had done what I did. Women today are independent and free and have just as much authority as men do. Nora's biggest mistake was not telling Torvald about it in the beginning and then him having to find out through Krogstad's letter made it worse and showed that Nora didn't trust Torvald enough to tell him what had happened. If it came to the case that, I had to take out money to help my husband, I would do all I can, even take out a loan as Nora had, as long it would save my husband, but ultimately when he recovered, I would tell him what I had done and explain the situation that I was in to him. If I was dealing with a situation that Nora was in, the first thing that I would have done is tell my husband and hopefully he would understand the reasons that lead me up to taking a loan and forging the signature. Torvald sees himself primarily as responsible for the financial welfare of his family and as a guardian for his wife. He would stay by my side because; he would know that I took out that loan for him and his health.
