macbeth consideration

             The last two lines of this scene seem paradoxical. What do you think they mean?
             The last two lines mean that things are not always what they seem. For example, something may mean one thing, but there is always something that defies it or, something may seem good and reasonable to begin with, but when looked more in depth, it is not as good and reasonable as once thought.
             Although Macbeth doesn't appear in this scene, we learn a great deal about him. What impressions do we get of Macbeth? Draw as complete character sketch of Macbeth as you can, based on what people say about him. What do we learn of Duncan's character in this scene?
             In this scene, Macbeth is described as being a loyal, patriotic servant of King Duncan. He is spoken of as a brave hero and was said to be the next Thane of Cawdor. In this scene, we learn that Duncan is the king and he praises Macbeth highly for his bravery.
             By the end of this scene, Macbeth decides not to kill the Duncan and wait for chance to crown him. What does this emphasize about Macbeth's character? Why is it important to establish this early in the play?
             What this emphasizes about Macbeth's character is that he did not have the intention to kill the king, although it was prophesized that he would be king. He did not do anything to become Thane of Cawdor, so he thought that he would let being king just come rather than chasing after the title. This thought was to be established earlier in the play to show that the death of the king was not to be purely blamed on Macbeth.
             Duncan is basically a kind and generous King. However, he can be seen as having at least one major shortcoming. What is it? Provide evidence from this scene to support your opinion.
