Remake of Kolya

In the original film, Louka is 55 year old play boy who has nothing going for him. He used to work as a cellist for the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra until he got kicked out. These days, he plays funerals at the city crematorium. Strapped for cash and lacking many material comforts, Louka frequently indulges himself with the company of other men's wives. His change from within happens when he is left to care for a 5 year old boy left to him by his wife from a fake marriage. The boy, Kolya, teaches him to grow up, to mature, to be responsible, and to give up his bachelor lifestyle. To remake this film, I would set it in modern day New York perhaps. In this film, it's about an Italian Mafia Godfather, played by Al Pacino, like Michael Corleone of The Godfather, who gets stuck with his estranged daughter's child. In the life of this man, he is caught up in the day-to-day dealings with his dysfunctional family, his businesses - both legal and illegal. He has no time to take a step back from everything and assess his life. It's one rollercoaster ride after the next. All his children have grown up. His sons are already enmeshed in the Mafia way of life. As for his daughter, she has chosen to disown her family because she doesn't a

His peers and colleagues think he's gone soft because of this child and want the old Godfather back. The running of his businesses was left to his sons. The child doesn't speak much because she doesn't really know anyone since her mother had refused to bring her to family gatherings. A few days pass and nothing much has changed. The estrangement between father and daughter hurts the Godfather, of course. He is reluctant to take in the child but is forced to do so anyway. He'd much rather live a "normal" life, the life he didn't have ever since he decided to join the family business. This causes much conflict in his family as well as in his organization. All of these things he left his "people" to do for him. He realizes that he was never much of a loving father figure to his kids. Of course things aren't as easy as they seem. If one needed to find him, he would be playing with her in the yard, or out with her somewhere.
