Copied Passage: "There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands. You seek problems because you need their gifts." ~pg. 71Identified Context: At this point in the book, Richard, the main character, has just seen Donald take off and land in a small field. Considering that Donald's plane is gigantic and that the field is very small, Richard is thinking that there must be some kind of magic involved because such a feat would never normally be possible. However, when Richard asks Donald about how he does this, Donald simply says "This world and everything in it? Illusions! Every bit of it illusions." Ric
However, he does not get the answer he thinks he needs. For example, a baby chick must pick its way out of its shell in order to survive. Richard truly did get the answer to his problems on the page he found in the book, all he needs to do is look for the gifts that are presented with each problem he faces. He opened the book expecting answers, not another puzzle. " Solving problems makes people stronger. Although he does not understand their meaning, he is somehow comforted by these words of wisdom, and rightly so. Willard Marriott applies here also: "Good timber does not grow with ease; the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees. If you make a mistake that causes a problem and you correct that problem, you know that you will come away with the new knowledge not to make the same mistake again. Earlier in the story, Donald told him that if he focused on an issue and opened the book, the solution to the issue would be written on the page. In life, it is the overcoming of obstructions that produces strength. The gift it receives from this is the gift if life.
