Thousands of people commit suicide each year, but how many people actually take the time to find out why they took they're lives? That is one of the main things I wanted to find out in my project. Why people commit suicide and whether or not their peers could have detected warning signs. I want to know what they're thinking about when they just about to kill themselves, or at least an idea of what could be going on in there heads. Whether they're scared, confident that this is the right choice, completely wasted from drugs or freaked out by the thought of it but still seem to find the last bit of fortitude to kill themselves. When I was in the fifth grade, my class had seen a video on suicide. That was probably the first time the issue was brought right in front of me. I had heard of suicide before hand, but I didn't realize how serious an issue it was. It was depressing to see how sad their friends and families were after their death. The whole suicide issue had caught my attention back then. To be honest, it was most likely because the teacher who showed us the videotape and taught our drug prevention classes was pretty cool. I couldn't totally grasp the idea of someone taking their life over problems
I also want to learn what the signs of suicide are. In ancient Egypt Suicide was a fairly common fate for condemned criminals in Egypt. Also, historical events effect suicidal rates, like the Stock Market Crash during the depression. In Africa, servants, slaves and warriors would commit suicide once their king died so they could serve him in the after life. I know the major cause of suicide is depression; however there are many causes that lead to depression. One of the things I didn't know about suicide was that there were so many suicide prevention clinics and hotlines. The most famous Egyptian suicide was Cleopatra, who, according to legend, took her life with poison. A teenager may also feel that he or she will attract more attention by dying than living. As cars rush by he is walking unsteadily. Many people committed suicide thinking it was better to die than to live such a low life. I know that suicide is most common among teenagers also. " It's always important to listen to what you kids have to say.
