Teens and the Obesity Epidemic

             More teens are becoming overweight, and need to put a stop to it. There are three reasons which cause teenagers to become obese. One reason is they are choosing to eat at fast food restaurants, and are not getting the proper amount of exercise. Instead of eating healthy foods like fruits, salads, and sandwiches, teens choose to eat at places like McDonald's and Burger King. The second reason is they are spending more time playing video games, surfing the net, talking on the phone, watching TV, and need to do more physical activities. The third reason is that parents are not setting good examples of eating right and exercising for their kids. All parents want their children to live long and healthy lives. By not teaching their children the importance of good nutrition and proper exercising, they are jeopardizing their children's health.
             One contributing factor is this new generation of teens are turning away from eating healthy food, and are turning to fast foods. Instead of making a healthy lunch at home and taking it to school, they go to places like McDonald's and Burger King that will make the food for them. I remember when in high school, my friends and I would always eat at Taco Bell or McDonald's. The foods that are consumed at these fast food restaurants are loaded with calories and fat. As if that was not bad enough, I would get these meals super-sized to get a larger portion. I would then finish the meal by drinking a huge ice-cold pop. This led me to be overweight for most of my four years of high school.
             The second factor that is causing the rise in overweight teens is their lack of exercise. Teens these days would rather spend there spare time playing video games, instead of getting out of the house and doing some physical activity. It is a difficult task to get them away from the video games and the Internet. With teens not working out, or not doing some physical activity, they have no way of burning off the foo...
