Astrology

             Astrology has been around for a very long time, even before mankind's earliest written records began. Around 5000 BC there was obvious evidence of astrology and astronomy that was discovered in many stone circles in Great Britain and France.
             Today's astrology began in Mesopotamia and Sumeria, where people and their relationship with crop planting were first observed in relation to the stars. The seasons were important because they could bring about the best harvest, and the sun was worshipped for its powerful rays, and the energy it gave the land and crops. The many phases of the moon were predicted in order to bring pattern to the crops, and a sense of time. The planets Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were all viewed under the darkness of night and their movements mirrored with events on earth. Eventually the pathways of the planets were called the Zodiac.
             In the beginning of Astrology people would make predictions on wars and natural disasters. At times horoscopes were even made up so that ancient rulers could see what the zodiac had to say about them. The details of astrology's origins are sketchy, however most authorities believe that it began near the area now known as Iraq 2000 years B.C. The Mesopotamians believed that the stars and planets were gods who could impart divine messages to worshippers. As civilizations like the Egyptian, Greek, and Roman took turns reigning as the world's dominant culture, astrology's influence was filtered through
             Them and passed along. Plato associated the soul with the stars, and the Roman emperors used court astrologers to advise them on the timing of important decisions.
             In Alexandria, Ptolemy wrote the first books on astrology; the Almagest and Tetrabiblios. These two books tell about how the earth is surrounded by a power, the forces of this power are projected from the planets to affect life on earth.
