Articles of the Confederation

After the Revolutionary War the new Americans erected a government guideline; The Articles of the Confederation, that established a government to bring unity to the states. The Articles of the Confederation allowed for a temporary union of all the states, however there were some serious flaws that prevented a strong cohesiveness. Differences in political interest, economy and the general welfare of the colonist result in division. vernment lack sufficient power to carry out any legislative affairs. The war had left America in a pickle that included a sizeable national debt, farmers who suffered because of the decline of the economy and disgruntled colonist who could not cope with heavy taxes and individual state ordinances. Individual heavy state taxes and regulated trade amongst the states not only caused trouble but also it also allowed personal discrimination on a national level. The inability of the colonist to agree in any national standard laws also lessen any common bonds they once had. Certain areas of local interest to the individual states triggered only conflicts because of their difference of opinions on how to handle the economic troubles. Life after the Revolution had produced changes in the New World in which some of its aftermath had left less than desirable effects. Due to the self-governing acts of the states there was no chance of the people coming together on one accord. With no real central government power the states were free to act separately in counter acting the residual problems of the war. Political strife and a weak central government had put a wedge of discontent between all the states that would not permit them to come together as a whole.
