Witches
This book is about a young boy who is on an adventure to discover the truth about Witches! This young energetic boy is called...well actually he doesn't have a name, he is just known in the book as 'Boy', and he is kind of the narrator in this book. Anyway the person responsible for beginning his fascination about witches was his very own grandmother. His grandmother was Norwegian, and apparently all the Norwegians knew about these so called Witches! The Boy lived in England with his parents, while his grandmother lived in Norway and usually twice a year his family would come down to Norway to visit his grandmother. Unfortunately, just soon after his seventh birthday, they were heading up to Norway and their car skidded off the road and came tumbling down into a rocky ravine, both his mum and dad died in this tragic accident and strangely the boy only got away with a minor cut in his forehead! After that it was arranged that he had to live with his grandmother in Norway. The grandmother trying to help the boy forget his tragic lost decided to tell him stories. She told him all kind of stories,
When the man left the boy asked his grandmother what had happened, she replied " That man who was just here, was reading out your fathers will, on the will your father wished that we must go back to England and stay at your old house. She told him which part of the world had the wicked witches, she also told him how to recognise a witch. In one of these stories this one really fascinated me. The painting showed some ducks in the yard outside a farmhouse, there were no humans painted. The next morning they couldn't find their daughter anywhere, it was like she had vanished into thin air, but in the end they found her, they found her in the painting! She was feeding the ducks, everyday she would be in a different position! But what was more weird, was the fact that the older the painting got so did their daughter it was as if she was getting older and older, transforming from a girl into a woman. The boy's grandmother said that they wore long gloves to cover their disgusting hands, their fingernails were long and curvy just like a cat. Their noses were slightly larger than ordinary people, the reason for their big nose holes was to smell out children. Then one day she just disappeared, her parents couldn't find her in the painting anymore. The witches were also bald, they had to wear fake wigs but the wigs were so realistic that it was really difficult to spot if it was a wig or not, that's just not it they had different noses. It was a rather large painting and really pretty. The boy was woried one night and asked his grandmother about . So it was settled, in a matter of days the boy had to go back to school, in a few days the first term would start. That was just one of the stories, although they had all had one thing in common, after each disappearance of the child there was a tall woman seen!! Anyway, as each day passed his grandmother told him more stories about these witches.
