             Despite the different contexts and ways their ideas are portrayed, both Brave New World and Blade Runner explore the same ideas when it comes to the relationship between humans and the natural world.
             Aldous Huxley published Brave New World in 1932 during the period following WWI. At the time, writers such as H.G. Wells condemned the book as a "treason against science" because of the dystopian depiction of society caused by extreme biological advancement. It was a common conception around that time that the more science advanced, the more benefit society would experience. As a result of the war, some sections of society were also moving away from the assurances and morals of religion in preference for a more secular and consumerist outlook on life. Huxley uses the genre of science fiction in his book to try and project the course of these new beliefs, portraying the dangers he saw in that way of thinking. The style of science fiction in those days was a focus on theories and questions which were discussed through the text, and Brave New World reflects this. The book uses scientific discussion, the thoughts of characters, and even moral debate to explore it's themes.
             Though it was originally released in 1982 before the directors cut re-released in 1992, Ridley Scott kept much of the story the same as the concerns it dealt with were still seen as relevant. Pollution, overcrowding of the cities, and an obsession with capitalism are all found in the film.
