1. The term Domestic Violence refers to violence within a domestic relationship. This relationship can be a marriage, de facto relationship, or a close personal relationship including relatives living in the same house. Domestic violence is often not reported because:* The legal system presents authority and may be seen as insensitive to the individual. * They are dependant on the offender economically. * There is a lack of support facilities. * Psychological problems: Cycle of violence which is continued from childhood, alcohol problems, mental illness, unexpressed anger and poor self esteem. * They are loyal to someone whom they once loved. * It may lead to ramifications that alarm the victim. * They have low self esteem and believe that the violence is deserved. It was also found that 9 per cent of the women felt they were victims of emotional abuse by their partner. * They wish to ensure the economic protection of the children.
