Management as I see it
I see management as a complex of interpersonal relationship. It is the process of working with and through others to achieve objectives in a changing environment. Central to this process is the effective and efficient use of limited resources. Everything that we see is an event and it revolves around mankind. Management is the art of managing people and utilizing resources, and it is the combination of science and art. In science, we will use all the management theories and in art, we are dealing with human being. In our first session, we discussed about values and how should we change our values. I found that this issue is rather interesting and tried to gather more information on how values affect the management directly or indirectly. Values are ideas about what society believes to be good, right, desirable, or beautiful. They provide the basic underpinnings for notions of individual freedom, democracy,
the distribution of a value throughout the population may become more or less widespread. How and may this values change in order to fulfill the needs of the environment? According to Rescher, there are five ways in which social values may change:1. a new value may emerge or an existing value may totally disappear2. To put a stand on what I believe is right and not to change my values. truth, justice, honesty, social obligations, and so on. the scope of a particular value may be broadened or narrowed5. As discussed in class there are three types of values, namely, fundamental values, economic driven values and government constructed values. National culture shapes individual behavior by specifying appropriate and inappropriate behavior and interactions with others. Managers doing business with individuals from another country must be sensitive to the value systems and norms of that country and behave accordingly. National culture is an important sociocultural force that global managers must take into account when they do business in foreign countries. He developed five dimensions along which national cultures can be placed: Individualism Collectivism Low power distance High power distance Achievement oriented Nurturing oriented Low uncertainty Avoidance High uncertainty avoidance Short-term orientation Long-term orientationDifferences among national cultures have important implications for managers. This is something that strikes my mind, whereby we should not do the revolution to change a system. Gert Hofstede, a psychologist for IBM has developed a national culture model based on his research. the standard by which a value is measured may change and is constantly happening to our assessment of the minimum standard of living.
