George Bush

             The book, The George W.Bush Presidency: An Early Assessment, edited by Fred. I Greenstein is a compilation of essays written by over a dozen political experts. Experts who, under the organization of Fred. I Greenstein, met at Princeton University to present their view points on G.W Bush's presidency. This book review will summarize the ten chapters within.
             Chapter One: The Leadership Style of George W.Bush – Fred I. Greenstein
             In this essay Greenstein attempts to evaluate G.W Bush's leadership style but before he does he gives the reader a background briefing on the man in question G W. Bush. The typical rundown is given, the author does not discover anything not noted in existing literature, but the purpose of this essay was not to analyze the past of the president it was written in hopes of trying to define the leadership style of the president. In the latter half of the essay the author evaluates the style of G.W relying on a framework of analysis developed in one of his earlier books. Greenstein applies the following categories to G.W Bush:
             Emotional Intelligence: The author addresses G W.Bush's past vices and explains the contrary to popular belief the president has disciplined his emotions well citing his handling of the 2001 China mid-crisis and 9/11.
             Cognitive Style: According to the author G W.Bush is a smart guy...when he wants to be. He usually has the overall concept of things and seems to be well informed, more so post 9/11, but the author also mentions that at times it is not good enough to be well informed and not be well equipped to reason.
             Effectiveness as a Public Speaker: It seems he is getting better the more he speaks but his effectiveness is still flawed.
             Organizational Capacity: The author gives the president two big thumbs up on his ability to organize. The author also notes that Bush may not be exposed to the complete viewpoints of his immediate staff.
