             The Conflict that started WWI ( World War One ) was between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir presumptive to the Austrian throne, and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated June 28, 1914, by Gavrilo Princip, a Serb. nationalist. After this Assassination Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, exactly one month afterwards, July 28, 1914. Many say that Germany pressed Austria- Hungary into declaring war on Serbia. This is the main reason that people say that world war one started but the fact is that several factors played a role in the outbreak of the war that engulfed the nations of Europe for over four years. Two opposing alliances developed by the Bismarckian diplomacy after the Franco- Prussian War was another one of the major causes of the war. Nationalism also played a major role in developing tensions in Europe; it had been causing dissatisfaction since the Congress of Vienna in 1815.
             World War One lasted from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918. It was only four years but it was a tragic four years. During this time period thirty-two nations join. Twenty-eight of these nations were called the Allies and the Associated Powers, they included Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States. The other four of these nations were called the Central Powers, they included Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria. All of these nations joined the war at different times.
