The Conflict that started WWI ( World War One ) was between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir presumptive to the Austrian throne, and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated June 28, 1914, by Gavrilo Princip, a Serb. nationalist. After this Assassination Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, exactly one month afterwards, July 28, 1914. Many say that Germany pressed Austria- Hungary into declaring war on Serbia. This is the main reason that people say that world war one started but the fact is that several factors played a role in the outbreak of the war that engulfed the nations of Europe for over four years. Two opposing alliances developed by the Bismarckian diplomacy after the Franco- Prussian War was another one of the major causes of the war. Nationalism also played a major role in developing tensions in Europe; it had been causing dissatisfaction since the Congress of Vienna in 1815. World War One lasted from July 28, 1914 to
