             In the past three decades, abortion has been a topic of considerable controversy in North America. Abortion, although widely practiced, was considered immoral and illegal in most western societies until this generation. Abortion discusses human interaction where ethics, emotions and law come together. It poses a moral, social and medical dilemma that faces many individuals to create an emotional and violent atmosphere. In the United States, state laws, hospital policies, and professional codes clearly prohibited the practice of abortion because it destroyed a developing human being. The social ferment of the 1960's brought about increased emphasis on individual rights, including women's rights. Many women's rights activists sought legalization of abortion, initially to help women who were victims of rape or incest and women who were carrying a child who is deformed, as well as to eliminate the dangers of illegal abortion. With time, the goal of the advocates became abortion-on-demand for any reason at all. The US Supreme Court's Roe vs. Wade decision in 1973 struck down all state laws that restricted abortion. There are many points of view toward abortion but the only two fine distinctions are "pro-choice" and "pro-life".
             A pro-choice view states that the decision to terminate a pregnancy is that of the women, before fetal viability and later if it is of harm to the life of the women. The decision to have an abortion is between a woman, her conscience, and her G-d. In some cases it is in the best interest of the woman and her fetus if a pregnancy is terminated. Various factors such as medical complications, fetal abnormalities, tragic events such as rape or incest, lack of finances, and teenage pregnancy; all of these are valid reasons for a woman to choose an abortion according to the pro-choice view.
