While still a small child, his mother, Afeni Shakur, changed his name to Tupac Amaru after an Inca Indian revolutionary, "Tupac Amaru", meaning "Shining Serpent". "Shakur" means "Thankful to God" in Arabic. Tupac had a troubled childhood, the family experienced hard times. No matter where they moved, Harlem, The Bronx, homeless shelters- Tupac was always distressed. "I remember crying all the time. By the time he was twenty, Tupac had been arrested eight times, even serving eight months in prison for sexual abuse. re school for Performing arts, studying acting and ballet. In his life, he overcame many obstacles - he had been arrested, involved with gangs, jailed, and shot twice. On September the 7th 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot by an unknown gunman, and died on September 13th. In January of 1997, Gramercy pictures released "Gridlock'd", a film in which Shakur played the role of a drug addict to mostly good reviews. He moved to Oakland, California, that's when as Tupac called it, "I hung with the wrong crowd". Tupac then joined the rap group digital underground as a dancer. "I am not saying these things are good, but he set goals and achieved his dreams! Which I think shows strength of character. Something I aspire to do in my life. At this school Tupac left a lasting impression on his teachers and was showing tremendous talent. In a recent survey it showed that 83% of Tupac's fans believe that the great singer and actor staged his own shooting in 1996, (whilst leaving a Mike Tyson fight as a passenger in a Cadillac accompanied by the director of Death Row records Suge Knight), to hide from the media and pressures of life. Not long after Tupac was released from prison he changed his alter ego to Makaveli. Some of this evidence includes the knowledge that everywhere Tupac went he wore a bullet proof vest, but on the night of the shooting he didn't.
