Attachment Theory

             Describe the basic concept of the Attachment Theory, completely, how are researchers evaluated whether a child has attached properly or not? Give specific examples of children who attach properly, and several types of children who have not attached properly.
             The Attachment Theory centres on the closeness between the mother and the child and how the bond, or lack of one, effects the child's view of the world and thus how the child comes to engage with it. Mary Ainsworth is a developmental psychologist who devised an experiment, called The Strange Situation to observe attachment relationships between mother and child.
             There are 3 catagories of Attachment : Secure Attachment and Insecure Attachment (Avoidant/Ambivalent)
             With a secure attachment the child becomes securely attached when the mother is available and able to meet the needs of the child in a responsive and appropriate manner.Children with very close attachments to the mother are also the most able to express their independence. In the experiment such a child will explore freely whilst the mother is present, will engage with strangers, will be visibly upset when mother departs and happy to see the mother return.
             An example of this is Karen's mother drops her off, Karen is slightly nesitant to leave her mother. When she see's something that catches her attention, she leaves her mother to explore it. She then cecks back a few times to make sure her mother is watching, and ten continues exploring. When her mother leaves, Karen say's bye and continues to play confidently while her mother is absent. Whe her mother returnes to puck her up Karen greets her. Karen is securely attached.
             With an ambivalent insecure attachment, this state develops from a mothering style which is engaged but on the mother's own terms. That is to say that sometimes the child's needs are ignored until some other activity is completed and that attention is
