Animal Rights

             Should Animimals have rights? Most people would think so, but they don't put much thought into it. When it comes to animals, we think that we can talk about animals having rights, when in fact, animals lack the most basic right almost completely. This is the right to physical security, which makes all other rights possible and meaningful.
             If animals do have rights, then why are over eight billion animals consumed for food every year in the United States alone? Why are animals continuously being used in appalling experiments in which they are cut, burned, injected with some substance, and otherwise mutilated? We are more dependent on the exploitation of animals than the Southern United States were dependent on human slavery. People cause unbearable pain, suffering, and death upon animals because of the taste of their flesh, the look and feel of their fur or skin, or for sports such as hunting, or entertainment in circuses and zoos. Do you still think animals have rights?
             Animal expolitation benefites much for people. For examples, zoo animals help educate and entertain hundreds of people, but how do you think the animals feel about the fact that they are being locked up in cages with people constantly staring at them and taking picture after picture? So once again, their rights may easily be sacrificed because it benefits more for humans, right?
             Why is it okay for us to test on animals? Researchers claim that because animals are much like us, we need them in order to better understand and treat our diseases, but these same researchers also claim that animals are unlike us, meaning we should have no moral converns for the mistreatment of animals. A little contradicting, don't you think? Personally, I do agree that animals are much likes us, but because they are so much like us, they too are able to feel physical and emotional pain.
