Songs and poems have the power

             Essay- Songs and poems have the power to change our world and the way we see it.
             The poet Wilfred Owen is concerned by the threat of biological warfare, which evolved for one purpose, which was the mass slaughter of the most amounts of people possible. Wilfred Owen, along with many other peoples Point of view on war changed particularly after the Vietnam War, where a change in weaponry occurred from the rifle to the bomb and gas. Wilfred Owen has expressed his feelings through poetry in the two poems Anthem for Doomed Youth and Dulce Et Decorum Est. In poetry, the irony of war can be expressed through metaphors, similes and personification along with many other poet terms, though I disagree that poems, themselves, have the power to change our world and the way we see it.
             "Anthem for Doomed Youth" shows a great portrayal of the loneliness on the battlefield and of the feeling that no one is going to give you any recognition for your death, which your are taught to be so proud of. The two lines; "No prayers, No bells" and "Nor any voice of mourning" are linked together in the terms that no one is there for the soldiers to mourn their deaths. No one is there praying for them and no one is there ringing the town bell when they are killed in action. On the battlefield you are alone. The men were slaughtered, " died as cattle" as Wilfred Owen put it, meaning the men had no chance, they were vulnerable, helpless and slaughtered in large numbers just like livestock. There is also a point which is pushed through the poem " Anthem of Doomed Youth" how most of that generation of boys were killed. All died at such a young age, " Not in the hands of the boys, but in their eyes" this is saying that the boys weren't there to mourn the dead soldiers returning home with candles but they are the soldiers being mourned.
