Chris Smith is very energetic and full of life. Chris is very excited and looking forward to a new challenge as the executive assistant to the chief professional officer at Faith Community Hospital. This promotion is right up Chris's alley, as Chris is a recent graduate of the University of Phoenix. Chris's very first assignment is to put together a preliminary report that will serve as the guide to her boss, Pat's, first employee meeting in ten years. This is quite a task that Chris has been handed, but with the skills gathered at the University of Phoenix, Chris should be able to rise to the occasion and show off all the newfound skills acquired along the way.Chris will show off all the newly acquired skills by using the nine-step decision making model to accomplish the first assignment for Pat. I have organized and categorized all possible symptoms and in the end it seems to be that they fall into one of the following four categories. Having said that I believe that there are four major problems that need to be dealt with in the staff meeting.
With the hospital in the middle of a situation of rising costs and lowered insurance reimbursements, there needs to be a committee formed to serve as a watch dog. By having this population as part of the board, the board will become more diverse and will become more of a true representation of the population as a whole. As far as the ethical issues are concerned, we have patients that are refusing medical treatments and staff who are refusing to provide certain services. This Bill of Rights will include best practices as well as the procedures that all patients and employees must adhere to when wanting to have their voices heard. They will offer facts to management based on information gathered in the trenches. By doing this and management having this information, it will serve to cut down on impending issues that could crop up. Creating a Patient an Employee Bill of Rights will promote the importance of self-respect and leadership to those involved. S Implement further staff meetings in order keep the lines of communication open. These policies are not and should not be open to interpretation and they should be followed to the letter. S Allow staff and patients to sit on the Board of Directors. For this reason we need to form an advisory council. Developing a Why-Tree for the problems would allow me to get a good picture of the root causes of these problems. Because of this, there will always be ethical issues that will need to be addressed. We have staff members that are initiating Do Not Resuscitate directives when they are in place as well as staff that are not initiating them even when they are. Given that, I would recommend that the following be implemented at a later date:S Educating all stakeholders on exactly what the mission statement means.
