A catcher in the rYe

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
The theme of the book is about Holden not acknowledging the fact that he has to grow up. I still don't understand what made him so uncomfortable about sexuality. Sexuality is a human trait. To me it seemed that Holden wanted to totally separate sexuality from a relationship with a woman. To him love shouldn't include sexuality or any type of sexual gestures. This was what made me think, this was not a very adolescent view upon relationships. When I read what he said about being a catcher in the rye, it seemed very heroic. Wanting to save children from becoming adults and learning about sexuality just showed me that he himself did not want to become an adult. I think he would have better luck in neverland. The problems this book showed about adolescents is very powerful and deep. As I said in my introductory paragraph, many teens do not manage to hold on to their lives because of all the pressures of living in this environment. I myself having two friends, who tried committing suicide, know that it is very hard to live. Complex emotional burst are what drives teens, emotions we don't understand, emotions we start to comprehend, emotions we will soon learn are what will lead us into adulthood and will eventually determine the way we lead the world into its next phase and future.
Jerome David Salinger was born in New York City in 1919. HE grew up in Manhattan and was changed to various schools during this time. (That sounds familiar)
He went to a couple of colleges but never graduated. The only thing he excelled at was writing. He wrote short stories and served in World War II. Then in 1951 he published The Catcher In The Rye and he became a very well known author.
