Julius Cesar Literary Techniq.

             During this tragedy written by William Shakespeare, named Julius Cesar, there are many outstanding speeches. Each speech had a way of persuading the listeners to believe what they are saying. The speech I have chosen is Mark Antony's. This is when Mark was giving his last thoughts of Julius Cesar at Julius' funeral. The very persuasive speech was held in front of the people of Rome (Plebeians). During the speech Mark Antony is trying to convince the people of Rome that what the conspirators were saying was false, wanting to turn them against the conspirators. William Shakespeare used repetition, logos, and rhetorical question to sway the people of Rome to not in favor of the conspirators and avenge the killing Julius Cesar.
             One of the great literary devices used in the speech to get Mark Antony's point across was repetition. His intention in using repetition is to say the phrase so many times that it's meaning disappeared. In the speech, he said that "Brutus is an honorable man" (3.2.91) and "Brutus says he was ambitious" (3.2.95). He said the statements in a sarcastic manner, so that they would become a joke, causing the citizens of Rome to be start believing the opposite of the phrases purpose. Repetition slowly helped to make the meaning of all Brutus said in his last speech to become phony.
             Mr. Antony used an important art of rhetorical in the speech called logos to convince the audience. Logos is the appeal to logic. Using a lot of sarcasm, Mark Antony used logic to turn the people in the crowd against Brutus and the conspirators. He was allowed to say whatever he wanted because Brutus did not stay to hear what Mark had to say, giving the impression that Brutus is allowing him to say the things.
