Wicca

             Many people believe that Wicca and witchcraft are the same thing. There not. Wicca is a religion based on a peaceful, harmonious and balanced way of thinking and of life which promotes oneness. Witchcraft is a practiced skill and not connected to any religion. Some Wiccan's do practice witchcraft. The spells involve healing; love, harmony; wisdom and creativity. Wiccans neither worship nor believe in Satan. Satan is actually a Christian creation. Wicca 's roots date back 30,000 years to the worship of a Fertility Goddess and a Hunter God. Much of the history was lost during the 15th through the 17th known as the Burning Times. It is believed that during this time nearly 9 million people, mostly female, were tortured, mutilated and or killed after being accused of practicing witchcraft. Much like the Christian belief of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost, the Wicca believe in the Law of the Three. A supreme creative force is called the One. It encompasses the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The One is the unity and existence of all things. The Goddess or Lady is the energy force of feminine. The God or Lord is the masculine energy force. They exist in harmony in all forms of nature. Wicca today is based on a reconstruction of pre-Christian traditions originating in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. In England, during, the 1930's Gerald Garnerian and High Priestess Monique Wilson formed the Gardnerian Coven. It is traditional, extremely strict in their practices and very secretive. Garnerian Coven came to America in the 1950's. They are considered the blue bloods of Wicca. The maternal geneology of all members is traced back to Monique. In the 1960's Alex Sanders was shunned by Gerald when he began publishing the secrets of the Coven. He began teaching a more liberal version called Alexandrian in honor of Goddess Alexandria.
