CIS/319 - Computers & Information Processing Being in sales out on the road and working from home there is not much exposure to the development of new systems. However being the end user of an operations system which is used to view weekly schedules and complete proposals the sales person is able to give a perspective on this system. The proposal portion is a is a structured system that configures pricing based on the inputs which are taken from a prospects current billing for telecomm services and a profit analysis to come up with the proposed price of services. The control is attained by submitting the proposal with the prospects billing information to check that the sales person understood and inputted the billing information correctly. Also a call is made to the prospect to review the information for a second time. The second part of this system is the ability to view a weekly schedule online. The sales persons schedule mostly consists of appointments made by the inside sales team. So any misinformati
Mobile devices could be put into the hands of the sales people such as laptops or pda's with wireless capabilities. Now the system is relied on to notify the sales person by viewing the schedule on line. The email aspect would help in being able to accurately set second appointments with prospects on the spot and the employee rules would eliminate wasted time on a daily basis. on can lead to lost time and lost prospects. The more realistic solution would be to put rules in place for the employees at the schedule desk and to modify the system. An update of the schedule could be obtained at all times. Plus the benefit of being able to work proposals or gather other information while on the road would be highly beneficial. Resulting in having to call the prospect back after reviewing an updated schedule to find out that the agreed upon meeting time is now unavailable. One the schedule does not update real time, so if the sales person is leaving their office early in the morning to go on an early appointment they would have missed any updates that may have occurred which would result in showing up at an appointment that had been rescheduled or cancelled. Problems The problems that derive from lack of controls are inefficiency and loss of prospects both frustrating and costly. So being the end user of a current system or a planned system should equal involvement in the development process. The rules for the employees at the schedule desk would state that when there is a change in the schedule that effects the next twenty four hour period they must notify the sales person via cell phone. Solutions There is a solution that would be very efficient and have a lot more benefits aside from fixing the scheduling problem. These are problems that need to be resolved by enhancing the system to be real time information which is a project that is now underway.
