Welfare Reform
The effort to fight proverty though welfare reform, work, and tax reform, wasthought to be a success to bring the poor out of proverty but it fail to do so. On August 22, 1996, President Clinton, signed into law the Personal Reponsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, which replaced AFDCwith TemporaryAssistance to Needy Families. I do remember, when this act waspassed because I recieved this assistance and it did help me and my family outfor a limited time, that I could recieved it, but when it stopped, I was back in thesame shape, I started off in, which was poor. The TANF and Welfare Reform programs are very good sources in helping
In situations like this, that is going on in our society we willnever over come the proverty problem in the United States. We don't need the money at the first of the year, the working poor needstheir money when they get paid. Poor families, will still have to rely on welfare programs like -time limited to TANF that, may not be availiable in the future to defray the cost of providing for ourfamilies. Instead of thegovernment providing jobs and educating unskilled workers they had thenerves to think the EITC tax benefits was going to really help the poor. I know I did not want to continue to be on welfare so I searched on my own, to get off welfare. when I do become a social worker I do want to be involved withthe movement of helping the poor get out of proverty or to a point wherethey can survive with out government assitance. The government calls itself helping the poor with these sorry EITC tax breaks, that don't help nobody but one time of the year and that 's if you're eligible to get it. It is embrassed toa working person to work everyday and still have to pay for food with stamps and to rely on welfare assitance. The large corporations are getting over, especially in these low wage paying companies, manurfactor companies, and benefitingfrom the tax cuts they are getting for hiring the working poor. This statement is true because people will still be placed in proverty levels even though they wok everyday in low wage paying jobs. I did not stay in the program long because of the jobs were limted and they paid low wages and you would still have to rely on welfare services to make it. the companies that would hire you through the Welfare Reform Programs were getting tax cuts andthey were benefited more than we were, as the working poor. I can relate to this article because I have used these government services. people get off of welfare but doesnot help people get out of proverty.
