-Unrest w/ barbarian tribes trying to get in
-300 Rome divides into W. & E. Roman Empires
-Paul/Saul–important church father; picks up Christianity & spreads the word
-Ideas of Christianity become more important
-Constantine Empire (313) helps with this also
-Makes Christianity no longer outlawed religion
-Theodosius – 390 officially declares Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire
-Important because it marks a change in the mind set of the people
-476 – official year that W. Roman Empire fell to barbarians (end of Ancient Era)
-St. Augustine – church father (lived 360-430)
*Came up with idea of original sin; salvation was given to us by grace of God
-Helped set framework of the Church dogma
-Wrote The City of God around 411-412
-People saying Christianity responsible for the fall of the R.E.
-His response to this was that salvation was the more important thing, so be it if the R.E. fell, it doesn't matter
-Dualism – physical world as well as spiritual (valued most) world
-Negative view of this period caused by 2 major things:
