Algeria and The United Nations
The United Nations (UN) was first thought of as a peace keeping effort to preserve state sovereignty and as a means of collective security. It all began as an idea furthermore evolved into the United Nations we know today. The accomplishments and milestones that the United Nations has achieved only justifies its basis to a greater degree. Without the relentless efforts of the UN the world would not be as economically stable, "peaceful" or united, in many different aspects, as it is today. "Algeria's own revolutionary traditions, commitment to self-determination and nationalism have all significantly influenced our foreign policy". "Algeria attaches great importance to Security Council resolution 1373 (2001), which establishes the basis for an organized international response to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We have a civic responsibility to fight against this epidemic for those who cannot fight for themselves. Most effect more than one country hence the need for the United Nations. Scaling up efforts is required in the fields of prevention, financing, access to medication, and coordination among the different initiatives. There are many trials and tribulations facing every country every day. However, this epidemic has reached such proportions that it necessarily requires further efforts at the national, regional and international levels. No cure is achievable unless we all join forces and take a stance. As time has passed our focus has become more on pressing economic and strategic interests. The problem not only lies in Africa, but lies here in your own soil as well. The Aids/HIV epidemic is also of great concern to my country. der in the developing world and surrounding regions. It does so not only by virtue of its active commitment to international peace and security, but also since it perceives the present international team effort as corroborating its own consistently argued position on the nature of terrorism and its global implications " (Report, 2001)Our main focus is on terrorism, its direct relevance to our domestic situations and the threat it posses against internal sovereignty. The United Nations exists because of the need for a place were many nations can join together with other nations and devise treaties and agreements to take a stance against what issues seem to be distressing ones state sovereignty including those issues of Terrorism, the Aids/HIV epidemic and countless more. All countries should join together as one United Nation and take a firm stance against all forms terrorism.
