             I cannot stand to suffer any longer with this horrible pain. This paper will establish that euthanasia is okay and support it with facts and statistics that show people agreeing with it.
             Euthanasia is commonly referred to as mercy killing. It is the practice of mercifully ending a person's life in order to release the person from an incurable disease and intolerable suffering (Euthanasia). Society today often believes, and thinks, that euthanasia and assisted suicide are the same. Well, sorry to say, they are not. Euthanasia is when one person does something that directly kills another. For example, a doctor gives a lethal injection to a patient. In assisted suicide, a non-suicidal person knowingly and intentionally provides the means or acts in some way to help a suicidal person kill him or herself. For example, a doctor writes a prescription for poison or someone hooks up a face mask and tubing a canister of carbon monoxide and then instructs the suicidal person on how to push a lever so that he or she will be gassed to death (Euthanasia: Frequently Asked Questions).
             There are three different types of euthanasia. One type is called passive euthanasia. In the United States, it is the most frequent way of killing such people. This also must be one of the most agonizing ways to die as well. There are two different methods of passive euthanasia. One is by taking away their food and fluids, so that they will starve to death. It is called "passive" because they are not directly killing the person. They define food and fluids as "medical treatment" and then they stop this "medical treatment." They typically give them drugs to prevent their bodies from going into convulsions as they starve because this would be disturbing to the family and friends who come to see the patient "die peacefully" (Johansen).
