Oedipus Rex
Critical review Character Analysis Oedipus RexAppearance: Oedipus is a very clean cut person. His clothes are perfect in appearance. The medals on his coat are shined and even his shoes seemed to have been polished.Words: The words that Oedipus uses are usually that of inspiration. Whenever the peasants or common folk are unhappy or upset, Oedipus uses his linguistic skills to calm their bodies and ease their souls.
Laius was given a prophecy by an oracle, one that would result in his death. Personality: Not only is the king just, but he is caring as well. Change: After Oedipus finds out his true identity, he becomes angry and very bitter. The prophecy claimed that Laius' son would one day kill his father and marry his mother. The servant, however, could not bring himself to do this and gave the baby to a shepherd, who in turn gave the child to the king and queen in Corinth. The once proud king, brought down to his knees in shame. All that he had and loved would slowly become a distant memory. Background: Originally born in the house of King Laius in Thebes unto the King himself,Oedipus was raised by the King who lived in Corinth. Laius gave the baby to his servant and instructed him to take the baby far from the kingdom and leave him for dead. Everything he does seems to be for the good of his kingdom. His love does not stop at his own family, for Oedipus is a tender-hearted man who shows his love to all.
